GUIDE

Archive records are searchable by media type, collection, or keyword.

TO SEARCH BY MEDIA TYPE, select the dropdown menu next to where it says "Media Type" and select the type of media you are looking for, then click "Submit". Many photos are stored as JPEG or TIF files, while many documents are stored as PDF files.

TO SEARCH BY COLLECTION, select the dropdown menu next to where it says "Collection" and click on the name of the collection you want to view, then "Submit". Many collections are name for the people or institutions of their origin, such as the Michael A. White Collection or the Marine Corps Archive Collection.

TO SEARCH BY KEYWORD, click on the blank field with a magnifying glass icon next to where it says "Search Term" and type the word or words you would like to see results for, followed by the "Submit" button. A very general keyword that might yield many records would be "war". A more specific keyword search such as "nurse" or "Dr. Torres" may yield only a few results.

You may also narrow your search by applying a combination of filters using the above search parameters together. For example, you might select "JPEG" from the media type field, "Michael A. White Collection" from the collections menu, and type "Refaluwasch" in order to find only records that contain JPEG images with the word "Refaluwasch" in the title or description within the Michael A. White Collection.
