This statue of "Sugar King" Haruji Matsue was erected shortly before WWII by the Japanese administration in 1934 to honor the last and most successful leader of the sugar industry in the Mariana Islands. The statue is located in now Central Park, otherwise known as Sugar King Park, in Gualo Rai on the island of Saipan. Bullet holes from the war are still visible all over the statue.
