Event Description The Portland-class heavy cruiser USS Indianapolis (CA-35) prepares to depart Tinian, Northern Mariana Islands on July 26, 1945 after delievering enriched-uranium and other components for the 'Little Boy' atomic bomb which would be dropped on Hiroshima, Japan on August 6, 1945 by the B-29 Superfortress Bomber Enola Gay of the 509th Composite Group commanded by Captain Paul Tibbets which took off from North Field, Tinian, Northern Mariana Islands.
